What do you think about political parties? Is it time to start casting them aside? Do they really get anything done, or do they cause more harm than good? Are you willing to go against the group of people you traditionally followed if they aren't doing what you voted them into office to do? Independence of thought is critically important to advancing society in a way that is healthy for everyone. When every idea has a fair chance to be heard and truly considered, we are all better off. This doesn't mean we have to do everything that everyone brings to the table, but the truth is that we tend to agree on far more issues than we disagree.
How do you feel about anger? Do you just blow up at people, or have you learned to control it? Have you changed over the years, or do you still react like you did when you were younger? Learning to control our emotions is a critical part of being an adult, and once we can learn to do that we stand a much better chance of reaching the other goals in our lives. Anger can be a huge roadblock, but with a little practice and discipline we can overcome it.
How do you feel about change? Are you excited when it happens, or do you feel anxiety? What kinds of changes have you experienced that you thought were going to be negative, but turned out to have unexpected benefits? Learning to look at the future with a positive lens can help us make the transition from one phase of life to the next in a much easier way, and might be the difference between the change being bad or good. It is up to us to make it happen.
What do you think of this movement? Should D.C. be its own state, or should it be a distinct entity? What are the pros and cons of the idea? There are many arguments for and against, but we must think long and hard about making this change. The wrong choice could lead to serious problems, and we have enough of those already.
What do you think about the slippery slope? Is it a real thing, or a construct of people afraid of losing what they have? Have we seen real examples? If we ignore the past and continue down this road we're on, we'll have no one to blame but ourselves. We've been given the example of what not to do, and it is up to us to have the courage not to do it. What will you do to convince others to avoid the mistakes of our forefathers?
